029. apartmenting

noun + ing = verb! lovelove.

Hello, (hopeful) apartment: http://santabarbara.craigslist.org/apa/690195608.html

you know what's annoying about blogger? when you're in the "compose" mode, you can't copy-paste for some reason. well. you can copy. but not paste. not without having to go into "edit html" mode. D: lame.

anyway, so yes. i (plus bryant and alex) went to go look at this place--apartment--on tuesday. brad couldn't go--he had work and was shooting other stuff. i called originally on monday and the guy (name is robert) said he would call me back tuesday between 5-6pm. so he did, at 5:55pm. and we set up a time to see the place which happened to be 7pm that day. awesome. went and saw, liked. door leads immediately to stairs as well as a small closet on the left. stairs goes up, flats, turns around and leads to a very short hallway sort of thing. to the immediate right is a studio room (bathroom, closet, all utilities paid in the room--talk about it later if i remember) and to the left leads to a kithen + balcony.. and three rooms. master and two smaller ones. and a bathroom. master has a separate kick ass bathroom. lots of space. as for laundry, there's a washer and dryer--have it pay but it's not that bad. have one covered parking spot where there's more storage (laundry room is also in the covered parking in a separate small room) and three other uncovered parking spots, tenants only and for us only (B only--that's the apartment letter, d'oh). the landlord--robert--used to sell it as a studio + 3 bedroom separately, which is why the studio has the utilities paid.. blahblah.. is now a 4 bedroom 3 bath situation. awesome. bryant and i are taking the master (if we get it, more on that later) and brad and alex each have their own rooms.. and that studio room.. is going to be a studio. quite literally. in a photographic sense. so anyway, we looked and applied. well. he also has this other place and he showed us (even though other people applied before, he wasn't sure if they were going to take the place for sure or not, so just to show us). that was a house in itself. it was alright but i didn't like the neighborhood as much and parking would've been harder. only three spaces unless you played some tetris maybe. and no washer/dryer. liked the house but eh. anyway, not the main focus. robert seemed quite worried when bryant said that he had motorcycles.. lame. spent lots and lots of time telling him that it was okay, that bryant rolled out his motorcycles onto the street then started them so it wasn't noisy etc. oh, did i mention that the guy didn't speak english very well and was also having a hard time understanding us? or something. it was pretty crazy, especially over the phone D: anyway.. got the forms, took one to brad at the studios (and bothered him and his model for a bit) and then went back to the apartment (bryant's). i went to go shower, came back, drill sergeanted the boys to fill out their forms (i had hoped to get them to robert by that night--he said that there were other people coming to see the apartment 4pm the next day so i wanted to shove the applications in his face!!! yea.. hahha not really but you know what i mean--but by the time we finished, it was 10pm). gave up. watched some NCIS (awesome show).

shut my eyes for a prolonged period of time (aka.. slept)

woke up 9:00am to get to the OTHER place's open house (opened 10am). alex and bryant accompanied (okay, so bryant drove). yes i like parent-he-sis. pa-ren-the-sis. anyway. didn't like the place; 3 small bedrooms, ONE bathroom, separate entrance yes but no parking (street only and it was filled even though it was a wednesday at 10am) and also was the upper floor of someone else's house. yikes. not that great. so i called robert to tell him we were coming to drop off the applications (he gave us his house address) but he didn't pick up, but we were on our way anyways so.. got to his place, rang the bell, etc. he looked over the applications a little and told us that he thinks that we'll probably get the place and that someone else was supposed to go see the place but he said that he wasn't sure if he was going to and that he told them that he might not show it because he had other people lined up (aka US, yay!). he would let us know by june first (conveniently the day we have to tell RnR, our current apartment manager people, if we are going to stay in RnR for another two months or leave). maybe not so convenient. anyway.. so yes. was happy about that.

HOWEVER. it is $3250/month so that means, evenly split, about $810 + utilities. parents were definitely not happy about that. told me that since i was sharing a room (even though it was sharing by choice) that it should be less for us to pay. and i guess it's right. everyone would be using the studio. so it should be divided among 3 rooms. and the master would cost more because it's a larger space but since it's divided by 2 people, the end cost would be lesser. just to push in my point more for overkill points, it's like my current situation: single rooms (smaller) are $950/month, and shared rooms (larger) are $680/month. so the larger room is actually $1360 vs the smaller $950 but since the cost is shared by 2 people, that's why they pay less. so anyway. i told alex and he said it made sense. and i told brad and he seemed just "whatever" about it and i was worried--i felt guilty enough in the first place because as smart ass bryant happened to say in the middle of me explaining to alex, "she's just trying to get you to pay more money". but he was joking. i got pretty upset. but brushed it off and haven't brought it up. so anyway, i figured it out how to split the cost by rooms. single rooms are $900/ea and the master would thus be $1450, so bryant and i would both pay $725/month. and i found out later that brad had been running a long day on 3 hours of sleep but that he had taken a nap and felt better, so his irritableness was caused by sleep, not by me. so i think we're set. just waiting on robert (landlord) to get back to us.

MAJOR FINGER CROSSAGE!!

ah, yes. about my english class. well. since i was sick for about a week, i missed 3 straight english classes. so i figured i was dropped out of the class. turns out that my email to the teacher made him dismiss my absences and said that i could continue the class.. but.. on tuesday when i had class, i didn't feel like going--had pretty much made up my mind that i was dropped and had sent emails to my mom/family that i had dropped. and really did not feel like writing essays and reading textbooks to study for the next exam, etc. so, yes. no more english class, just photo. which is busy enough in itself. i really need to find models. plus the fact that it's almost week 5 so everything for me is due week 6 because week 7, tim meyers is gone down to san diego to speak to professionals. lucky us that we get a teacher that goes around and speaks to professionals, eh? yea. it's pretty lame. so i have about a week to come up with an entire assignment.. ughh. and what i chose isn't exactly the easiest assignment either.

i decided that i wanted to take photos of.. death. hit and run, asphyxiation, jumpers, drowning, abuse and overdose. so i need to take six pictures (only turning in 6, but obviously i need to take more). so needing to find models, etc. i don't think it's that hard.. just.. finding light, where i want to do it, etc. asphyxiation is showing feet (dirty) hanging off the ground near a tree. drowning is facedown in a pool. hit and run is a body on the street with tail lights in the distance, model/person probably under a street light. jumper is either someone laying on the ground from a higher POV like from a bridge, or using photoshop to composite feet leaving an edge to another image of a high ledge (aka a building). abuse is someone huddled in the corner with makeup for bruises, etc. and overdose is focusing on the pills/etc while seeing someone out of focus, laying down. see, it's not really showing death it's.. suggesting it. i don't know. and i think i'm crazy for thinking of this for my term project but i think the idea is good. i just need to do it. maybe i need to go home and shoot it. easier i guess. we'll see.

anyway, besides that.. not much else has been going on. i've been pretty busy and i'm guessing likewise for you gals 'cause i haven't heard anything from any of you. my fault for not calling. just whenever i get home i either want to just relax or i have to do into studio and do other stuff. i went into studio three consecutive days in a row. and it's about 3am and i finished up my write-up and whatnot for the assignment due tomorrow (thank goodness we don't have to print) and bryant's sleeping and i should be too..

http://thebrooksperience.blogspot.com is updated.

sleep.
